2299 C.A. Dragon Landscaping, LLC — Nantucket Grounds, Given Shape
Landscaping & Garden Craft · Nantucket, MA

Nantucket's grounds,
given shape.

A new name for the island's oldest craft. C.A. Dragon Landscaping clips hedges into living sculpture, builds gardens that shrug off salt wind, and keeps historic properties looking exactly as they should — deliberate, every leaf of it.

What We Do

Six trades, one crew, zero shortcuts.

From formal boxwood dragons to a windbreak that actually holds against a nor'easter, every job is scaled, planted, and clipped for this island's particular weather.

01 — Topiary

Topiary & Hedge Artistry

Precision-clipped boxwood, yew, and privet — including the dragon motifs we're known for. Hand-shears only, no shortcuts with a power trimmer on fine work.

02 — Design

Coastal Garden Design

Beds built around salt spray and shifting light — hydrangea, rugosa rose, and native perennials arranged to hold color from May through the first frost.

03 — Turf

Lawn Care & Turf Maintenance

Mowing, edging, aeration, and overseeding tuned to sandy island soil — so the lawn stays green without draining the aquifer to do it.

04 — Hardscape

Hardscaping & Stonework

Fieldstone walls, bluestone walkways, and patios laid to match the vernacular of a two-hundred-year-old streetscape — or a brand-new build.

05 — Cleanup

Storm & Seasonal Cleanup

Fast response after a nor'easter, plus the twice-yearly fall teardown and spring wake-up that keeps a property presentable year-round.

06 — Planting

Native & Salt-Tolerant Planting

Beach grass, bayberry, and other species chosen because they were already surviving here before we showed up — not despite the wind, because of it.

Manager on Record

Charles A. Dragon

Founder & Manager, C.A. Dragon Landscaping, LLC

Charles trained under Nantucket groundskeepers before taking on his own client list — the kind of apprenticeship where you learn to read a hedge's grain before you're allowed near it with shears.

He signs off on every design and still clips the formal work himself, dragon topiary included.

Why the name

A dragon, because a good hedge should have some nerve.

Most island landscaping plays it safe: tidy lines, predictable boxwood balls. We think the best-kept properties on Nantucket earn the right to a little character — a coiled hedge dragon by the gate, a garden built to actually survive the fog, a lawn that isn't fighting the sand underneath it.
